Artist and composer James Schaller is a Certified Music Practitioner trained to play therapeutic music in medical situations. As a child James was instinctively drawn to the mysterious power of music. From the young age of 2 he spent hours listening to his parent’s vinyl recordings – they were amazed that a toddler could sit still for long periods of time listening to music! From his earliest memories James felt intuitively that there was a deep, hidden quality to the music that was affecting him. After years touring with bands, playing classical guitar and composing new chamber music, James had a profound experience with music that was life-changing.
A friend was seriously ill and James took his guitar to play at the bedside. “I experienced a profound life-calling as I played at the bedside of a dear friend. I found music could have dramatic, positive effects to reduce pain and anxiety while supporting healing. This experience began a wonderful journey as I traveled to learn all I could about how music can heal our body, mind and spirit.”
James founded a not-for-profit organization that has mentored thousands of volunteers, clinicians and caregivers in hospices, hospitals, churches, nursing homes and community service organizations in the use of music to support healing and benefit those for whom they care. James demonstrates how selective choices of music in the home can help children recover from illness, assist in concentration with homework, and create a more restful environment for relaxation and sleep.
In response from many who attended his concerts and seminars, James has composed and produced recordings that harness the power of music for families, and these titles are now available through ChildGood. Mind Journey Music that caresses, nurtures and creates mind-scapes for healing and recovery.
